Experienced rider, 10 years

Location:  North Washington Street, near Hillcrest Baptist Church

Date:  About 6 or 7 years ago

Time: About 7:30 a.m.

Situation:  I was riding to work (OSU), heading south on Washington, riding near the berm of the road. This was the same route and time that I had been riding for about 10 years.

Description:  A south-bound driver honked at me, pulled up behind me and forced me off the road. He drove partially up onto the sidewalk to come after me, and then stopped with his rear wheels still on the pavement. He was yelling something (mostly indistinguishable) at me. He finally drove off and I got his license plate number and called the police. The police interviewed me and asked if I wanted to press charges (for assault), but I declined. The police picked up the driver for questioning. Later, they let me know that the driver was a coworker at OSU. The officers also told me that they instructed him on proper driving and gave him a verbal warning. I saw him driving while I was biking many times after that, but never had any issues. I don’t know if the Police gave the driver a ticket –they did not say. My guess is that no ticket was issued.
